Brian Baker

Guitar, Vocals, Percussion

Brian grew up in Eugene, attended Churchill High School and graduated from the University of Oregon. At some point during his teen years Brian got what’s commonly referred to as “the fever” for playing the guitar. The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones were all early influences. Countless hours banging on the guitar in his bedroom were followed by many blues jam sessions, college bands and house parties. He continues to play in a variety of musical projects around the Portland area. Brian’s guitar playing has been described as “crisp, thoughtful and never overbearing”. Another reviewer wrote of Brian’s rock and roll guitar style; “this guy’s dream fantasy must be to form a power trio with John Paul Jones and the ghost of John Bonham”.

Brian knew John Keys when they performed together in dinner theaters at Bethel Lutheran Church in north Portland. Brian agreed to record Beltaine for some demo CDs and was immediately struck by the unique sound of the hammered dulcimer and the music selection of the band. He joined the group in the fall of 2002. Brian has gained a deep appreciation for the music of Ireland and Scotland thanks to his musical work in Beltaine.
